Junior section is thriving at Oakham Tennis Club

Youngsters at Oakham Tennis Club are proving to be a smash hit.

The Under 8s team of Pippa Gretton, Joshua Davies, Rex Walker and Jasper Chamberlin had a fantastic result in the Leicestershire county event after winning 29 out of a possible 32 matches.

Their team spirit and togetherness mixed with their fantastic tennis ability has put them at the top of the leaderboard in the Leicestershire summer leagues.

Other ages have also had great success so far this season.

The Under 10s team of Rupert Peach, Charlie Tait, Cohen Kirby and Brooke Peake won against Syston in their first match of the season. The team didn’t drop a set and came out convincing 6-0 winners.

The Under 11s boys and girls teams have also enjoyed a fantastic season so far.

The boys are undefeated with wins against Leicestershire and Syston.

Star player for the boys was Ted Hook who won a decisive match to help the team just beat Leicestershire.

The girls side of Holly Byrne, Kitty Baker and Eva Tarranets have won all of their matches so far this season.

The Under 18 boys have had slightly more mixed fortunes with two wins and a loss but still currently stand near the top of the league.

There has been some fantastic tennis played in this league and it has really pushed the Oakham players to new heights with their ability to find a different gear when tested.

Head coach Dan Potter said: “It’s fantastic to see all of our junior teams perform so well in what is one of the toughest junior leagues in the country.

“To have most of our teams top or near the top of their respective divisions is such a good achievement and shows how hard our juniors and staff work to bring the success to the club.”
