Lands' End agree three-year sponsorship deal with Rutland club

Oakham United have landed the biggest sponsorship deal in the club's history.

The Rutland club has secured three years of backing from Oakham firm Lands' End who have taken over the ground-naming rights and also sponsored new kits for the nine teams.

The ground will now be known as Lands' End Meadow and is home to three men's teams, three youth sides and three newly-formed girls and ladies teams for the coming campaign.

Oakham will have two men's teams and a veterans side competing in the Peterborough League this season with an Under 8s side joining the ranks of the already-established Under 16s and 17s.

The new ladies team is in addition to the Under 12 and Under 13 girls sides who will be in action for the first time this season.

Joint first team Michael Nelson said the club were 'over the moon' with the backing which was announced ahead of Saturday's first pre-season friendly with Holwell Sports.

Nelson explained: "I work at Lands' End so I approached them to see if they were interested in sponsoring the football club.

"They already sponsor the rugby club so it's great that they're now supporting the two main winter sports in Oakham.

"They were happy to come on board which is great for us. We are really trying to raise the profile of the club in the area and this helps us even more. We're over the moon about it."

Lucie Jones, Lands' End brand PR and social media co-ordinator, was thrilled to be backing the town's football club.

She said: "We're delighted to be able to support the local community.

"Hopefully it will help encourage more players, both children and adults, to come along and join the football club.

"We want to have strong links in the community and hopefully this will help to keep the club moving forward."

Oakham have two more pre-season friendlies over the coming week with home clashes against Peterborough Northern Star on Saturday and Stamford Bels on Wednesday night.

They were beaten 4-1 by United Counties League Division One side Holwell Sports at the weekend with new signings Alex Brockbank and Steve Mastin both making their debuts for the Rutlanders.
