Oakham United may have lost 2-1 to Olney on Saturday but they have temporily won one of their biggest victories of the year by keeping Lewis Leckie at the club.

Striker Leckie’s form this season has caught the eye of more than one UCL Premier Division club and in the last few weeks the seven day approaches have been coming in to tempt the former Yaxley man away from Sterling Meadows.

Hitting 22 goals, at better than one a game, will do that.

However Leckie confirmed this week he was sticking with Oakham, and why wouldn’t you when the newly promoted side are sitting in fifth place in the UCL Division One in their first season at this level of football. However Leckie was unable to add to his tally on Saturday and eventually that came back to haunt the Tractor Boys who lost to Olney for a third time this season.

Olney, playing at home, did the damage before half time.

Jack Weeden struck his 17th goal of the season after 15 minutes to give Olney the lead and then Josh Sturniolo doubled the scored five minutes before the break.

Goal-scoring midfielder Adam Rothery halved the deficit for Oakham in the 55th minute but United could not find another goal to get something from the game. .

Oakham: Simon Dalton, Dan Jenkins, Stu Lambie (Cam Brookes, 71 mins), Gav Cooke,,Kris Kefford, Richard Nelson, Tom Caldicott (Sven Hart, 67 mins), Ben Easson, Seb Archer-Fern (Ewan Crawford), Adam Rothery, Lewis Leckie.

Olney Town: James Tammaro, Christian Smail, Will Wright, Aidan McLean, Cameron Clark, James Sage, Danny Webb, Sam Parrish, Aaron Murrell (Jason Ilunga), Jack Weeden, Josh Sturniolo.
