Oakham RFC under-17s have claimed an impressive hat-trick after their third county cup final win in a row.

The team beat Syston 19-10 in a closely-fought encounter earlier this month away at Melton.

It is the same Oakham team which won the Leicestershire and Rutland RFU county cup at under-15 level and last year at under-16 level.

Syston took the lead with a penalty but Oakham hit back before half time with a try by centre Lollo Sidwell to make it 5-3.

Syston claimed a try to make the score 10-5 before the Rutland team responded with a touchdown by prop Matthias Moss.

The game was evenly balanced at 12-10 with minutes to go when Oakham flanker Isaac Troughton burst through from 35 yards to score next to the posts.

Charlie Watts’ second conversion made the final score 19-10.

Oakham now go into a national cup competition playing cup winners from other counties.
