Oakham Tennis Club has junior champions in its midst.

Coach Dan Potter entered a group of youngsters, in the under 8s and under 9s, into a tournament in Loughborough at the Dan Maskell Centre over two weekends in December.

He has been coaching them throughout the year in all weathers when many older players would have given in to the ‘un-tennis’ conditions.

They did him proud by winning all their events.

Under 9s team-mates Monty Adams and Rosie Tetlow won both their singles and doubles against Oadby and Charnwood, which are both bigger clubs than Oakham, then went on to win their doubles against these clubs.

The under 8s was a four strong team who had to play Stoney Stanton and Hinckley.

They won 28 of the 32 games played – the outstanding individual was Grace Hornsby who won all her singles matches, taking victory in all eight matches.

Lewis Clarke, Archie Blackburn and Cameron Pearson were the other three members of the all-conquering team. They have all worked extremely hard to get to this level.

Coach Dan said he is very proud of the way these youngsters have worked and competed and feels they will make outstanding players in the future which any club would be more than pleased to have as members.
