Oakham United defeat Tydd in Peterborough League Premier Division clash
Oakham United ended a near five-month wait for another Peterborough League Premier Division victory after a 3-2 success over Tydd on Saturday.
It was also the first win of his Oakham managerial reign for boss Graeme Archer after a stop-start run of the games at the helm of the Lands' End Meadow club.
Since taking charge towards the end of October, Archer's side have played just eight league games - but he now feels that he's starting to be comfortable with the players at his disposal.
He said: "We have played a lot better in games this season than we did on Saturday and lost them so it was good to have something go our way for once.
"We did alright in the first half and got ourselves in front, but we are still giving silly goals away.
"We got the lead back again before half-time but, like all teams do, we sat back on it in the second half.
"Their second goal woke us up again and we went back at them. We kept at it and I couldn't fault the lads.
"I'm starting to find out now which players I can rely on and I know where we are at.
"We can give anybody a game. I'm settled in knowing what players can do and will be using a system to get the best out of them.
"We've got nothing to fear from what I've seen of teams in this league and hopefully we can now start picking up a few more wins."
Oakham took the lead in the opening period on Saturday when a good move down the right created an opening for Josh Gooding to break the deadlock.
Tydd got back on level terms following a quick break after an Oakham corner as the hosts lost possession and Jason Bradshaw burst forward to equalise.
Oakham though had the advantage back before the break as Reece Darby's strong run to the byline saw the ball pulled back for Ash Chamberlain to convert.
With Oakham looking to keep hold of their lead in the second half, Tydd equalised again when Ryan Mills thumped home a free-kick into the top corner of the home net with 20 minutes remaining.
However, Oakham rallied again and Darby's efforts were rewarded in the final 10 minutes as he charged into the area before firing home the winner.
Oakham: Stephenson, Hatherill, Altham, Chamberlain, Simpson, Andre, S Archer, Gooding, North, Bates, Darby. Subs used: Martinez, West. Not used: G Archer.
