Oundle the undoubted kings of Rutland Twenty/20 competition
Oundle retained their Rutland Twenty/20 crown with ease at Bretton Gate yesterday (Sunday).
Oundle saw off Nassington by five wickets in their semi-final before coasting to an easy 50-run win over Peterborough Town in the final after blasting their way to an imposing 187-4 in their 20 overs.
Alex Martin, Mark Hodgson and Callum Greaves all passed 50 in the final for Oundle who have now won the competition both times it has been run. Greaves bludgeoned his way to an unbeaten 54 from just 24 balls and hit three huge sixes - no mean effort on the biggest boundaries in local cricket.
Peterborough were out-muscled and out-played. Balaji Ganesan conceded 20 runs from the first over of the game which set the tone for a one-sided contest.
Town were never in the hunt in a rather disappointing reply. They lacked the power hitters of their opponents leaving David Clarke (48) to steer them to 137-3.
Oundle also inflicted the first Twenty/20 defeat of the season on Nassington after chasing down 153-7 in the final over. Petrus Jeftha (48no) led the Oundle onslaught in this game with Hodgson (44) again offering excellent support.
Town had beaten Barnack, also in the last over the game, by six wickets in their semi-final. Zeeshan Manzoor blasted his way to 56 for Barnack in typically brutal style, but received precious little help.
Marcus Howard (56) was the key man in Town’s response.
Oundle have now won all five Twenty/20 matches they’ve played this summer. They host Rothwell in the quarter-finals of the Northants Twenty/20 Cup on Tuesday, June 30.
