JOSH Prentice struck his first century of the season as Stamford crushed Market Deeping 2nds in the South Lincs and Border League Division One in Saturday.

Town beat their hosts by 122 runs to cement second position in the League, behind leaders Billingborough.

Prentice hit 16 fours as he scored exactly one hundred not out towards Stamford’s total of 260 for 9. Tom Williams (61) and Chris Bore (58) were the other chief contributors, with Joe Pearson taking three wickets for Deeping.

The host’s reply was then severely undermined by medium-pacer Simon Lem, who claimed his first five-wicket haul in senior cricket, taking five for 47 from his 12 over spell. Williams completed a fine all-round match with 3 for 11, to wrap up a significant victory.

Stamford Town Sunday Firsts edged back up to fourth in the Rutland League Division One, gaining revenge over doomed Medbourne for a shock defeat earlier in the season with a seven wicket victory at Uffington Road.

The win was set up by the bowlers with Steve Armstrong in mesmeric mode, finishing with six for 41. He was solidly supported by Chris Birch (2 for 21) after the visitors had reached 89 without loss, just after the halfway point of the innings.

Skipper Andrew Hulme made short work of Medbourne’s attack, leading from the front with a fine unbeaten 80 as Town eased home in just 30 overs, with Tom Williams also 19 not out.

The seconds warmed up for this weekend’s local derby against Uffington with an equally emphatic seven-wicket trouncing at Oundle 2nd XI dismissing them for just 101 in just 36 over.

After a clever spell of left-arm bowling from Richard Crossley (3 for 30) and a clinical spell from one of Town’s improving youngsters, James Ferrow (3 for 12), it was left to Alex Birch to claim the last four wickets, including three in one over, as he ended with 4 for 17 from five overs.

Skipper Chris Bore posted 48 with another great find, Tim Juggins, batting with good maturity for his 32 as Stamford won in just 20 overs to move back up into fourth place with four matches remaining.
