Joint manager Scott Bogusz felt his Deeping Rangers players could take enormous pride from their performance as a crowd of more than 1,000 supporters turned out to watch them host League One side Peterborough United on Tuesday night.

Posh brought a full-strength squad to the Haydon Whitham Stadium and ran out 4-0 winners in the pre-season friendly.

However, it took them until the 34th minute to break the deadlock before the fitness of the full-time professionals told in the latter stages as they scored three goals in the final 15 minutes of the match which was arranged at short notice after Posh had seen a behind-closed-doors friendly cancelled by their scheduled opposition.

Bogusz said: "We would like to say thank you to Peterborough United and Grant McCann for giving the club the opportunity to host them.

"A massive thank you also goes to the club, the Deeping community and all the Peterborough United fans for making the evening such a memorable one.

"In terms of our performance as a team, every single member can take enormous pride in their performances in what I felt was a great disciplined display defensively.

"To hold Posh to a single goal until the 74th minute just shows the information and practice on the training pitch is transcending onto the pitch which is very pleasing."

Posh struggled to break down a resolute Rangers in the opening period and it took a deflected strike from Joel Randall to finally beat goalkeeper Dan Swan ahead of the half-time break.

The League One side refreshed their charges in the second period which proved the turning point against their United Counties League Premier Division North hosts.

Kwame Poku neatly placed his effort past Swan to double the lead with 16 minutes remaining before the Deeping goalkeeper excelled to prevent Posh from extending their advantage.

He added to his string of fine saves before ace marksman Jonson Clarke-Harris netted a late double to finally defeat.

The former Coventry striker headed home for Posh's third goal before scrambling home another in the dying throes to seal a success where Deeping emerged with great credit for their organisation on the night and performance on the pitch.

Posh boss McCann said: "Thank you to Deeping for the game. They were one of the first calls we made after our match was cancelled.

"I felt for the first 60 minutes we were a bit safe but, in the last 30 minutes, we got a lot better. There is lots to learn and lots to get better at."
