Rabbits hit special goals

Rutland Dead Rabbits picked up the points at home with a 5-1 win against Sutton Bridge Reserves in the PDFL Division Four on Saturday.

The away side started the more attacking of the teams but Rutland quickly counter attacked through James Slack who ran the ball from his own half and into the box, his shot was saved by the keeper but Tane Scott reacted quickly to prod the ball home to give Rabbits the lead. Rabbits shortly doubled their lead when Liam Hollingworth’s cross was headed home by Slack.

Sutton tried to find a way back into the game and came close but hit the post. As the half drew to a close Rabbits made it 3-0 when Gary Rix picked up a pass from Darren Short and lobbed the keeper from 23 yards.

Rabbits came out in the second half looking to add to their total.

Fullback Dave Twose and Simon Brown found space to drive forward to out number the opposition on both sides. The away side got a goal back when a run through the Rabbits’ defence wasn’t picked up. Rabbits had to put more in as the away side tried to step up their game, and Rutland were awarded a penalty for a handball. Darren Short stepped up and smashed the ball home to make it 4-1.

Matty Nicolls only introduced into the game for a couple of minutes sealed it with a superbly stuck first time volley from 35 yards into the far bottom corner.
