Top-flight leaders Uppingham Town looked set for a handsome win over Barnack in the quarter-finals of the Rutland League’s John Wilcox Trophy on Saturday but the rain ruined their day.

Uppingham posted a hugely impressive 315-6 in their 50 overs. Mark Cox was the outstanding performer, hitting his 100 exactly before getting out to a N Kumpukkal delivery, along with the ever reliant Jamie Dumford who hit 62.

Barnack were 71-3 in 17 overs when rain forced an abandonment - three overs shy of the number required to determine a winner on run rate.

The teams will replay the game, possibly as an evening Twenty/20 contest.

The winner will face Nassington, who reached the semi-finals without playing as scheduled opponents Tilton & Lowesby conceded after failing to raise a side.

Elsewhere the games escaped the rain and rivals Oundle Town and Peterborough Town have set up a mouth-watering semi-final clash.

Oundle will host the last-four clash at the end of July after crushing Newborough by 95 runs. Skipper Bashrat Hussain was in excellent all-round form for the Division One side scoring 48 and taking 3-15.

Callum Greaves top-scored in Oundle’s 229-9, while Greg Rowland posted a half century in Newborough’s 134.

Seamer Kieran Jones took a first-team best 6-11 as Peterborough Town routed Stewart & Lloyds for just 82 on the way to a six-wicket win.
