Deeping Rangers were unable to unlock the Sleaford defence on Tuesday night despite the visitors to the Haydon Whitham Stadium being a man down for more than an hour.

The two sides finished 0-0 in the UCL Premier Division tie even though Sleaford were without player manager Terry Fleming for much of the tie after he was sent for an early shower after showing dissent towards the referee.

When he was on the pitch the Sleaford boss went perilously close to putting the ball in the back of his own net. He only just put a header wide when attempting to clear a Scott Ginty corner early on, while at the other end Scott Coupland shot over the bar for Sleaford.

Before the break Sleaford keeper Phil McGann was called into action to tip over a David Burton-Jones header and then he had to make a full stretch save to keep out a Liam Tunstall effort.

After losing Fleming Sleaford put on a master class of shutting up shop and hitting on the break.

When Deeping did break through they were thwarted by McGann between the sticks. He saved a Burton-Jones header from a Ginty free kick and then made an impressive point blank stop from Rangers substitute Adam Scotcher with Spencer Tinkler’s follow up blocked by Seb Firman.

Sleaford substitute Luke Clifford’s had a late chance to snatch an unlikely win but his final touch let him down. Scotcher had the final chance of the game but his effort, set up by a lay off from Ian Ward, went wide of the mark meaning Deeping had to match do with just a single point.

Rangers are now ninth in the UCL Premier Division. They travel to 19th place Northampton Sileby Rangers on Saturday.

Deeping: Danny Bircham, Dan Flack, Tom Smith, Spencer Tinkler, Joe Braithwaite, David Burton-Jones, Matt Carter, Scott Ginty, Liam Tunstall (Adam Scotcher), Jezz Goldson-Williams (Ian Ward), Jordan Avis (Matt Sparrow).

Sleaford: Phil McGann, Terry Fleming, Tom Preston, Seb Firman, Adam Underwood-Harley, Harry Millard (David Hone), Brad Hockin, George Zuerner, Gavin Gordon (Luke Clifford), Scott Coupland, Luke Hollingworth (Ryan Parnell).
