Deeping Rangers sign Blackstones quartet for new United Counties League Premier Division North campaign
Striker Will Bird is among a quartet of players to have moved to Deeping Rangers from near neighbours Blackstones for the coming campaign.
Bird, Jake Brown, Robbie Ellis and Sam Wilson have all made the switch to the United Counties League Premier Division North side.
Player-coach Luke Steele was on target for the Clarets in their 4-1 home friendly defeat against Wisbech Town on Tuesday night.
The Northern Premier League Midlands Division side had hit the front through Eoin McQuaid and then doubled their advantage with Toby Allen scoring.
Steele - who had been thwarted by an excellent save moments earlier - then halved the deficit when he headed home midway through the first half.
However, Avi Vieira restored Wisbech's two-goal advantage before the break with Dylan Edge sealing their success in the second period.
Rangers had been beaten 3-0 at the Haydon Whitham Stadium on Saturday by Spalding United who scored all their goals in the final 21 minutes of the match.
After a goalless opening period, Joel Brownhill put the the Tulips ahead after 69 minutes and then doubled their lead with six minutes remaining before Spencer Weir-Daley netted Spalding's third goal.
Deeping - who have also signed Tom Palmer to bolster their defensive ranks - are due to host Holwell Sports on Saturday in their final match of pre-season.
Their opening United Counties League Premier Division North match is on Tuesday night when they visit Boston Town.
They then travel to Leicester Nirvana on Saturday, August 7, in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup.
Bourne Town - who were 1-0 winners over Holbeach United at the weekend - host Sleaford Town on Saturday at the JJ Mac Stadium. Kick-off is 3pm.
The Wakes start their United Counties League Division One season on Saturday, August 7, with a trip to Borrowash Victoria.
