Deeping Rangers are relishing the challenge of tackling League One side Peterborough United in a prestigious pre-season friendly on Tuesday night.

Posh made a late arrangement to visit the Haydon Whitham Stadium after a scheduled away fixture behind closed doors against an unnamed club was postponed by the hosts.

Boss Grant McCann plans to utilise his full squad in two matches over 24 hours as they also visit Stevenage on Wednesday night.

And Deeping co-boss Luke Hipwell feels the match - which kicks-off at 7.30pm - will be a fantastic occasion for the town.

Hipwell said: "We are really grateful for Grant McCann and Peterborough United for giving us this opportunity to host them.

"It will be great for the community of Deeping and Peterborough to see the Posh first team up close and personal but equally to see our players and what we are loooking to do this season.

"It will certainly be a tough test to say the least but it's one I believe the group will take in their stride.

"We really hope that the community of Deeping come out to support us as it will be a fantastic occasion for the town."

The Posh match replaces Deeping's scheduled fixture with Northern Premier League Midlands Division side Cambridge City which they hope to rearrange.

Hipwell explained: "We were due to play Cambridge City on Tuesday night, but we got a call to say that Posh were interested in coming down to play us in a friendly and it was a no brainer to yes.

"Prior to agreeing, we needed to be respectful to our opponents Cambridge City in the fact that it was late notice but they fully understood our reasons and we thank them for that.

"We really value the fixture against them so we are in the process of rearranging that game into our pre-season schedule."

Rangers will go into the contest after back-to-back wins in their opening two friendlies with victories from Stilton and Whittlesey.

Hipwell added: "After good weeks worth of training, we had two good work-outs against Stilton and Whittlesey which allowed us to get at least 45 minutes in each game for all of the players which was great.

"We would like to thank both Stilton and Whittlesey for hosting us. The games were competitive which was just what we needed."

Admission for Tuesday's game against Posh is £7 for adults, £5 for concessions and £1 for under 18s. It is just pay on the night.
