Relegation D Day for Stamford RFC
Stamford RFC are through to a cup final without making a tackle at the weekend. Their semi-final against Grimsby was cancelled on Saturday but that means they are now through to the Lincolnshire Cup final on May 4 at Sleaford.
In the meantime Stamford have their biggest game of the season on Saturday as they do their best to avoid relegation from Midlands Two East North.
Stamford currently sit second from bottom in the final relegation position and nothing but a win away at bottom side Ashby in the final league game of the season tomorrow will be enough. And even then they need third place Market Bosworth to do them a favour and beat Loughborough on their own patch.
If that happens the new coaching team of Matt Albinson and Dave Laventure will have successfully pulled off the great escape. However even if Loughborough win there is still a remote chance Stamford could escape the drop but it would come down to points difference.
Eleventh place Stamford have 32 points and tenth place Loughborough have 33 points and they have a better points difference of 35. Meaning Stamford would have to get a bonus point win and score at least 35 points more than Loughborough. What is certain is there are going to be as many eyes on what it happening in Loughborough as there will be in Ashby. Both games kick-off at 3pm.
