Club thank Leicester Tigers star for his 'marvellous gesture'

England Rugby and Leicester Tigers star Jonny May made an appearance at Stamford Rugby Club on Sunday.

May was on hand to meet and greet all of the mini and junior teams who were playing and training at the club.

The Rugby Premiership's leading try scorer this season took part in several question and answer sessions with the players and was asked a number of searching questions from 'are you related to Theresa May?' to 'what other sports complement playing rugby that we could try?'.

The England winger spent several hours at the club and made himself available to everyone for photos, shirt signings and the customary 'selfie'.

Before leaving May gave all of the players packed in to the clubhouse the advice that they should always enjoy their rugby and to always be respectful to each other.

Mark Anderson, Stamford Rugby's vice-president, said: “It was a marvellous gesture that Jonny gave up his Sunday morning to come along to our grassroots club and to spend time with all of the players, coaches and parents.

“All of the players, including opposition teams visiting Stamford, were very grateful for the opportunity to meet an England legend.”
