More than 1,000 children expected to take part in tournaments




Stamford Rugby Club kicks-off its annual rugby festival this weekend.

It is the first of two dates for one of the biggest rugby festivals in the country with Sunday seeing the Under 9s to Under 12s in action with the Under 5s and Under 8s playing on the following Sunday (March 24).

The festival has attracted clubs from Lincoln, Kettering, West Norfolk and even Harrogate and Stamford are expecting more than 1,000 children across the two dates.

Each age group will play a round robin against other clubs and every player will get a medal at the end of the tournament.

Toby Desforges, chairman of the club's mini section, said: "We are delighted to host clubs from across the region and beyond in a celebration of rugby.

"Our aim is to give the children playing in the festival and their families the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy themselves.

"We hope that everyone taking part will embrace the values of rugby - teamwork, enjoyment, respect, discipline and sportsmanship.”
