The 11th Vale Judo Christmas Teams Championships took place at the club’s new dojo at Oakham Enterprise Park in December.

Close to 50 juniors aged eight and over were divided into three teams: Samurai Santas, Sumo Snowmen and Randori Reindeers.

Following a demonstration by juniors aged under 8, the competition was fun, fierce and feisty with the final results very close

The Randori Reindeers took first place in the tournament.

The winners of the individual prizes were:

Throw of the day (boy) – Luke Wadding

Throw of the day (girl) – Amy Riddlesdell

Spirit of judo (girl) – Summer Presley

Spirit of judo (boy) – Jaye Middleton

The competition and growing success of the club is thanks in part to Oakham Town Council which provided a grant that helped to fund the installation of the new hardware and software for the refereeing camera system and tournament software.

Vale Judo is now the biggest judo club located in the East Midlands and has its main dojo at Oakham Enterprise Park near Oakham and 7 satellite clubs located all within 60 minutes car journey.

The club has more than 220 members comprising juniors and seniors, girls and boys.
