The Rutland-Melton International CiCLE Classic is cancelled for the second successive year
One of Rutland's biggest sporting events has been cancelled for the second successive year.
The Rutland-Melton International CiCLE Classic was due to take place on Sunday, April 25, after the cancellation of last year's event due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, due to the current Covid-19 situation, event organisers have also decided against going ahead with this year's race which attracts riders from across Europe.
No plans are being made for the race to be rescheduled later in the year which means that the event - which is Britain’s only Union Cycliste International elite men’s one day race within the United Kingdom - will next take place on Sunday, April 23, 2022.
Plans currently remain in place to continue to stage the fifth and seventh editions respectively of the women’s and junior men's CiCLE Classics on Sunday, June 27, this year.
However, both races will depend upon the overall situation in regard to Covid-19 as that date approaches.
As in all previous years, both the events form part of British Cycling’s national road race series of events for their categories.
