Saturday and Sunday wins for Ketton
Ketton earned their second win of the season in the Hunts League Division One with a nine wicket victory at home to Waresley on Saturday.
The hosts lost the toss and Waresley opted to bat. However if didn’t go exactly to plan.
Skipper and opener Simon Donald lasted one ball when he was bowled by Ajaz Akhtar for a golden duck.
The next three in the Waresley order fared a little better, Sam Johnson hit 20, Ian Donald 22, and Tom Griffiths top scored with 32.
However after that the long Waresley tail collapsed under the pressure of Ulricht Van Duyker and Matthew Milner’s bowling attack.
The pair took four wickets each, Van Duyker 4-37 and Milner 23-4, as the visitors were bowled out for 124 in the 35th over.
The reply was made in haste and for the loss of just a single wicket.
Opener Robert Woolley was bowled for 10 by Zac Ringrose but Jacob Miller and Ben Bryant both passed the half century mark to finish on identical scores of 58.
Ketton are second in the league after two victories have given them the maximum 50 points available, the same as leaders Wishbech Town and third place Godmanchester Town.
In the Rutland League Division Two on Sunday Ketton continued their good weekend with a comfortable seven wicket victory at March Town.
Ketton could not quite bowl the hosts out who finished on 167-9.
John Gilson stuck around for 136 balls to score 67 before getting caught by Zac Treeweek off Ben Bryant’s bowling. Benjamin Pyle added 56 to bolster their score before being stumped by Jacob Miller off South African Van Ulricht’s bowling.
The padded up March bowlers were unable to handle the accuracy of the Ketton bowling and they lost their last four wickets for four runs before time ran out on Ketton.
The wickets were shared with Ben Bryant 3-19, Van Duyker 2-32, Andrew Barringer 2-33 and Shakir Mahmood 1-36.
Ketton opener Josh Gallimore lost his wicket on 15 but Bryant (63) and Mahmood (61*) set the Lions on their way to victory. Bryant hit 10 fours before being caught by Pyle but Martin Underwood came in to hit 13 to get them over the line in the 32nd over.
