Cottesmore continued their upturn in form with another solid showing to share the spoils with Glenfield United at Westray Park on Saturday.

The point from the 1-1 draw with their fourth-placed visitors means Cottesmore have taken seven points from their last three Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division games.

They have also made league cup progress in that spell to bounce back from a previous run that had seen the Rutland side lose three successive league games.

Shaun Denigan's early opener had put Cottesmore ahead before Louis Rood levelled for the visitors on the stroke of half-time during a contest that the home side created the better chances to have taken maximum points.

Manager Rich Giblin said: "We probably should have won the game because we had the chances to do that.

"We had three very good opportunities and a half chance to score on top of what we did against a good side who had only lost twice this season.

"But, if you had offered me a point before the game, I would have taken your arm off for it because we had a few players missing and had to delve into the depths of the squad.

"It was a solid point overall because it was a good performance. The nice thing was that we were creating chances which we weren't doing earlier in the season.

"We didn't take some of them on Saturday but, on another day, they will go in."

It had taken Cottesmore just five minutes to break the deadlock as Tom Atkins' near post corner was flicked on by Tom Caldicott for Denigan to react first and turn home from close range.

Caldicott then narrowly missed out at full stretch to turn home a ball into the box before Denigan shot over from a carbon-copy opening to the one he had earlier converted for the first goal.

Glenfield then came more into the contest as the half wore on but Cottesmore stood strong until a defensive mix-up allowed Rood to race clear and he lobbed Alex Brown to end the home goalkeeper's run of three consecutive clean sheets.

The equaliser lifted Glenfield going into the break but Cottesmore responded well despite having to make two changes at the break.

Colton Cropper and Alex Roberts had to be replaced with Danny Seals making a welcome appearance along with Eathan Milne.

The hosts managed to regain the initiative with Aaron Ridout being denied by a fine reaction save from the Glenfield keeper who then thwarted Caldicott.

Home custodian Brown and Darren Wilke then had to join forces for a last-ditch clearance to deny the visitors before Caldicott raced clear late on only for his attempted chip to be turned away by the keeper to ensure the honours finished even.

Cottesmore travel to Fleckney Athletic this weekend.
