Zayn Shirazi has put Stamford Amateur Boxing Club on the map by reaching the final of the national championships.

Shirazi is the first fighter from Stamford ABC to ever reach the final, which takes place tomorrow in Kent.

In the semi-final he stopped his opponent, Lewis Moorish from Crew, in the third round.

Shirazi reached the final after travelling to Durham last month to compete in the national pre-quarter finals of the junior novice championships.

First up he boxed E Austin from Albert Hill boxing club. The three round contest was not to be all one way but the Stamford fighter gave Austin a standing eight count in the second round.

Shirazi became very frustrated with his opponent’s style of boxing and was unable to get clean shots off and had to resort to boxing him with combinations that was to give him the win he deserved.

The victory saw Shirazi reach the quarter-finals when he met Chey Robertson from Tamworth Boxing Club, in the ring in Manchester.

Shirazi was the taller boxer and used his long range punches to his advantage to keep his opponent on the back foot. But Robertson did back down gracefully and stood and traded blows with his opponent.

In the final round he attacked with body shots that took the wind out of his opponent and earned a split decision victory.
