STAMFORD KO SHIELD: Eight wickets in 28 balls for Hammad, Twenty/20 ton for Manzoor
Mohammed Hammad returned remarkable Twenty/20 bowling figures of 8-21 for Barnack in a Stamford Knockout Shield quarter final tie last night (June 6).
Hammad’s 28-ball spell included three double-wicket overs as opponents Uppingham slumped from 72-1 to 128 all out.
Barnack, who had beaten Uppingham in a Rutland Division One match 24 hours earlier when Hammad smacked 103, then cruised to victory with seven balls to spare with Amir Shazad (36), Shahid Mohammed (33) and Asim Butt (30) all making steady contributions.
Barnack will now play Ketton in the semi-finals on June 20. The Lions delivered another power-packed innings to see off Stamford in their quarter-final derby last night.
In-form Zeeshan Manzoor inevitably led the way with a blistering 108 not out, while Shakir Mahmood cracked 62 in a team total of 200-5. Stamford struggled to 115-9 in reply with Ulrich Van Duyker (3-13), Aussie Peter Rowe (2-22) and Josh Gallimore (2-26) all bowled well for Ketton.
Manzoor whacked 10 sixes and four fours in his ton. He struck 30 (four sixes, a four and a two) from the final over!
The second semi-final will be between Burghley Park and Ufford Park who had contrasting victories last night. Burghley scored something of a surprise win at Bourne by 16 runs, while Ufford crushed Falcon by 133 runs.
David Platt (32), Steve Brown (28) and Adam Renton (25) scored well in Burghley’s 112-9 before Sam Nicholls captured the prize wicket of Bourne skipper Pete Morgan for a duck on his way to figures of 4-23.
Joe Corder was unbeaten on 56 when Ufford’s innings of 200-4 closed. Alex Agnew (3-11) and Angus Macbeth (2-9) bowled well as Falcon were shot down for just 67.
The semi-finals of the Stamford Charity Cup take place next week with Ketton hosting Market Deeping on Monday, June 13 and Boure entertaining Barnack on Tuesday, June 14.
Market Deeping are at Oundle tonight (June 7, 6pm) for a Jaidka Cup quarter-final tie. The other quarter-finals between Peterborough Town and Ramsey, Wisbech and Castor, and Bourne and holders Nassington take place tomorrow (June 8)
