Stamford Rugby Club launch recruitment drive for new season

Stamford Rugby Club are now recruiting for players to join both their senior men’s squad and their women’s side for the new season.

The first team finished champions of Midlands 3 East (South) last season and, with promotion to the next step, the focus is now on building a second side with league games when the new season starts.

There is also going to be a big push on developing the women’s section.

This is a key focus for the club as women’s rugby is one of the fastest growing sectors in UK sport with a strong investment from the RFU.

Michael O’Connor, senior section manager, said: “It really is exciting times at Stamford Rugby.

“With promotion for the men’s first team there’s now a real focus on developing both the men’s second team and the women’s team.

“We’ve now got confirmation that the men’s second team will be playing in a Merit League under the Leicestershire Rugby Union and we’ve already confirmed a number of friendlies for the women’s team.

“We’re now recruiting to build those numbers to give everyone a chance to play great rugby.

“It doesn’t matter if you’ve never played before or you’ve played a little and want to move up to the next step, we have fully qualified RFU coaches who’ll help you on your journey together with a superb and enjoyable
rugby environment.”
