STAMFORD Town 1st and 2nd XIs’ respective Rutland League campaigns both ended in defeat on Sundya.
The First Team lost by four wickets at champions Peterborough while the seconds were seen off by promoted Uffington by a convincing nine wickets.
Town’s first team changed their normal batting order and stuttered along to a below-par 119 all out, with only Andrew Hulme (27) and Liam Davé (23) the only batsmen to pass 20.
But they then shot out six Peterborough batters, thanks mainly to some brilliant from Steve Armstrong, taking five for 41, with another four catches being spilled off him to round off another fine season for the spin bowler and a good all-round effort from Hulme’s team, back in the top flight.
The seconds also finished a very commendable fourth in Division Four, under the stewardship of Chris Bore but had no answer to Uffington’s strong bowling attack.
Stamford were dismissed for just 103 with Dave Roberts making 23. They then mixed the bowling around to easily succumb by nine wickets in just 18 overs.
