Stamford Striders have four winners at local half marathon

Stamford Striders picked up a selection of silverware at Grantham AC Newton’s Fraction Half Marathon on Sunday.

A total of 34 Striders were in action at the event with James Skinner leading the way for the club, setting a PB on the challenging hilly course in testing conditions with a time of 1:20:46 to finish 12th in a field of 430.

The club picked up four prizes with Alan Hayes (MV50), Vicky Old (FV35), Viv Middlebrook (FV50) and Brian Kearsey (MV65) all finishing first in their age categories.

Gareth Williams was second Strider over the line in a time of 1:24:25, followed by Alan Hayes (1:26:06).

Vicky Old (1:36:15) was first lady Strider to complete the 13.1-mile course, followed by Viv Middlebrook (1:40:02) and Liz Fell (1:40:13).

l Twelve Stamford Striders took on the muddy Belvoir Challenge on Saturday, February 28.

Eleven Striders opted for the 15-mile route along footpaths, byways, tracks, and minor roads and through the Belvoir Estate.

Nicolas Bertrand was first to conquer the tricky challenge in 2:14:27 followed by James Skinner (2:18:11) and Nick Greenwood (2:18:34).

Helen Schofield opted for the longer marathon distance – completing the 26 miles in 5:36:50.

Elsewhere Jim Morris (1:21:25) and Adrian Fisher (1:38:34) were in action at the Bath Half Marathon on Sunday, March 1.
