Stamford Strollers walking football club have opened a new group at Elsea Park in Bourne
A thriving walking football club which has expanded due to its popularity has launched a new recruitment drive.
The Stamford Strollers have been a long-established and highly-respected walking football club who play at the Borderville Sports Centre.
With the recent opening of the artificial grass pitch at Elsea Park, the Strollers are now running weekly sessions to bring this fast-growing and exciting sport to Bourne as well.
As several members are local to Bourne, the transition has been easy and has been helped by excellent staff and top facilities.
Sessions across the venues are both day and evening to maximise availability to all and, with more sessions planned soon, there will be games available most days
The Strollers are looking for more players at both locations and would welcome anyone who is interested to come and join them.
The club welcomes people of all abilities and gender who may or may not have played football previously as they are fully inclusive.
While most players are 60-plus, there are players in their forties with limited physical abilities, through to those in their late seventies.
Some of the keenest choose to play in competitive games against other clubs, but equally many are happy to just enjoy the camaraderie and the enjoyment that all participants will experience through the local sessions.
This sport provides enhancement of both mental and physical health of individuals although, if in any doubt, always consult your doctor.
With the relaxation of Covid restrictions, outside group sports have returned but the Strollers apply a strict code of conduct at their sessions that goes beyond that required by the sport’s governing body.
Physical contact is outlawed with players maintaining a minimum of a metre distance before, during and after the game. All sessions have a facilitator and all matches a referee.
The Strollers are affiliated to Stamford AFC and share the strict code of conducts and ethos of the senior club.
Within that the Strollers have their own committee with a secretary, treasurer and manager representatives at age groups of 50+, 60+, 65+ and 70+.
With May being designated as National Walking Month, there can be no better time to join this friendly, progressive club. The first session is free.
