Stamford Young Daniels are among the winners at Deeping Rangers' Neil Olson memorial tournament

LEARN MOREStamford Young Daniels Under 11 Reds won their age group of the Neil Olson memorial tournament at Deeping Rangers over the weekend.
Nearly 600 youngsters attended the popular two-day event which attracted around 60 teams from across the area.
The tournament was sponsored by the Market Deeping-based Oakwood Group and was hailed a huge success thanks to the efforts of the teams, players, referees, sponsors, parents and volunteers.
Stamford's section consisted of two groups containing five teams with the top two from each proceeding to the semi-finals.
The Young Daniels played six matches in total, scoring 10 goals without conceding any.
They topped their group with maximum points to proceed to the semi-finals where they faced Spalding.
The game looked like it was heading for a penalty shoot-out until Stamford were awarded a last-minute penalty, which was slotted home by captain Theo Young.
Moments later Stamford scored again courtesy of an own goal to seal their place in the final.
This saw them face Crowland again, who they had already beaten 1-0 in the group stage.
In a tight game of few chances, both teams cancelled each other out and it ended in a 0-0 draw.
Stamford held their nerve in the penalty shootout, however, to win 3-1, with goalkeeper Harry Armstrong making two fantastic saves.
Head coach Calum Booth said “The boys were unbelievable all day.
"To play six games without conceding any goals and scoring 10 was a fantastic effort.
"They grew in confidence as the tournament went on and thoroughly deserved their win.
"The final was a bit of a nervy affair, especially the penalty shoot-out, but the boys showed great character.
"They also displayed fantastic sportsmanship throughout the day. They did themselves and the club proud.”
