South Luffenham race ace disappointed to miss out on podium place
Rutland single-seater racing driver Teddy Wilson scored more valuable points for his Formula 4 US Championship campaign in the second round at Pittsburgh.
However, the 17-year-old from South Luffenham was disappointed not to be challenging for podium positions after his win in the opening round of the championship in April and two podiums at this circuit last year.
Racing at the fast and technical Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Pennsylvania, Teddy came away with fifth, ninth and eighth places respectively in his three races.
He said: "It was a tough weekend throughout. Right from qualification we knew we lacked some pace, however it became very apparent in the early stages of the races as I couldn’t match the speed of the drivers around me.
"We found ourselves on the back foot and tried to make changes to the car to find the extra performance we needed which is always a gamble.
"Unfortunately, this didn’t make the difference and it was damage limitation throughout the weekend."
It was Wilson's first outing at Pittsburgh with team DC Autosport/Cape Motorsport.
In a repeat of conditions mirroring those at the opening round at Road Atlanta, torrential rain storms and flash flooding made two days of official testing prior to the race weekend extremely challenging.
In contrast, the drivers were greeted by hot, dry and sunny conditions for the race weekend.
Motorsport UK AASE Academy member Teddy added: "I want to say a massive thank you to the team for their resilience and dedication throughout the weekend.
"I gave it my all but we knew this wasn’t going to be one of our strongest rounds, so now it is time to focus on the remaining races to try and make up the deficit.
“I also want to thank my sponsors and partners C S Ellis (Group) Ltd, Versatile Venues, Safe Products Ltd, Scholl Concepts UK, Custom Racewear and Walero for their support.”
Teddy is fifth in 2019 F4 US Championship standings after round two.
The third round takes place at Virginia International Race Complex from July 26-28, however, Teddy still needs more funding to attend and has launched his ‘Go Racing With Teddy’ racing simulator opportunity for businesses large and small.
