Toft Ladies overcome Rutland County in Mail on Sunday
In the first round of the national Mail On Sunday competition,Toft’s away match against Rutland County was played in awful weather with rain for most of the time but undaunted, the visitors carved out a close win of 3-2.
The miserable conditions were shared by Toft’s intrepid caddies who nobly soldiered on with their players and at the end of the match,everyone appreciated the hospitality and refreshments provided by the home team.
Mairead Scott gave the Toft team a strong start by winning 8&7 (caddie Louise Bradley) and Lady captain Helen Roscoe also won comfortably by 4&3 (Margaret Dair). Cathy Lee( Viv Stanton) had a close match but came away the winner 2 up and the remaining two contests involving Lorraine Robinson (Mandy Lees) and Alison Ravenhill (Karen Parsonage) were narrow wins for their opponents by 2&1.
Team captain Mandy Lees was relieved to come out with a win and thanks were expressed to the contribution made by the caddies.
l January threw a mixed bag of weather for Toft’s Ladies to endure but nevertheless three competitions were played.
The Texas Scramble was blessed with mild and windless conditions allowing six groups to do untroubled battle after a shotgun start.
The winning team were David Parsonage, Richard Robinson, Cathy Lee and Louise Bradley with Adrian Childs, Ian Dair, Mairead Scott and Sandie Streets in second place.
Lady captain Helen Roscoe was pleased to report the raffle made £48 for her chosen charity Bourne Butterfield Centre.
Earlier in the month the fun competition Multiplier faced more hostile conditions with a very cold and windy day. The brave winners were Helen Roscoe and partner Margaret Dair on 18 points and in second place on countback were Lisa Gauci with Karen Parsonage on 17 points.
The Three Ball Alliance fun competition was won by Helen Roscoe, Mairead Scott and Margaret Dair with a total of 80 points.
Anne Wildish, Jean Parsons and Angela Jenkinson came second with 75.
