The first Championship race of 2014 for Rutland Running & Tri Club saw a record turnout.
The conditions seemed severe enough for the Brass Monkey event in Corby, although there were assurances that they have been much worse. The walk to the start was bleak as the rain and wind settled in for the duration of the race.
After a short huddle in the cold at the start line, three lone wheelchair competitors, doing some winter training, set off 30 seconds before the pack of 300 runners were sent in hot pursuit.
Four laps of the speedway circuit followed the white racing line in continuous driving rain, with a small group of hardy supporters cheering rain-drenched runners through the finish.
Congratulations to Lara Kristiansen and Saya Sheriden on V40L 1st and 2nd place respectively and Sean McAuliffe on V50M 2nd place. Also a special mention for Jane Hales on her comeback after a long injury break.
