UFFINGTON registered an emphatic home win over 10-man St Ives in Rutland League Four on Sunday.
The visiting batsmen started in aggressive style and Will Lygo was in good nick as he raced to a stylish 50. But, after he and the rest of the top order departed, Uffington scented a collapse and went for it with controlled aggression.
A key feature of the performance was excellent catching and Colin Miles, Will Felgate, keeper Jak Garner, Will Fairham, Guy Cunningham and Steve Moody ensured that every wicket fell to a catch as St Ives self-imploded for 112.
Ben Jennings bowled well and was the main beneficiary of the excellent fielding with 5-23, and Simon Larter and Felgate took two wickets each.
In reply Cunningham (32) played stylishly before being deceived by a clever slower ball from Lygo. But Damien Herrick (17*) dropped anchor to avoid any chance of a collapse and Felgate (54*) hit six clean sixes to seal the game in quick time.
This 20-point win leaves Uffington in fifth place in a very competitive league, but with games in hand on all the other teams.
