The Uppingham Town train kept rolling on at the weekend with their fourth straight victory in the PDFL Premier Division.

On Saturday the Rutland side beat Stilton United 2-1 to move up to 14th in the league.

A strong wind seems to be the eternal weather condition of this winter this season and once again it played a part in the games at the weekend.

Uppingham had the breeze at their backs in the first half and used the advantage to carve out chances for skipper Martin Bennett and Jake Norton.

However Stilton did well to contain Uppingham without creating too much to worry the home defence at Tood’s Piece.

Jack Salt went close to giving Town the lead before the break but his effort was well saved by the visiting custodian so the sides went in level at half time at 0-0.

Uppingham broke the deadlock after the break through James Howe.

He threw his head in where it hurts to finish a nice cross from a Norton free-kick.

However Stilton made Uppingham work for the points and when Mark Baines found some space on the edge of the 18-yard box he curled the ball into the net.

Having lost their lead Town upped their game and but for a great diving save would have been ahead again when Salt smashed a shot goalwards.

In the end it was Will Thomas who had the honour, ten minutes from time.

Uppingham host Leverington Sports on Saturday in their final fixture of 2016.
