UPPINGHAM’s U17s beat Moulton Harrox U17s in Bourne to win the Vogel Cup.
Moulton batted first on a hard dry track and struggled against Uppingham’s attack, scoring just 78 runs off their 20 overs.
Uppingham’s bowlers all chipped in with good bowling. Outstanding figures came from Mat Compton with 2-17 off his four overs, captain Tom Roberts with 3-18 from his four and, with the best figures of all, Jamie Richarson with 1 wicket from his 4 overs for just a single 1 run.
Uppingham chased down the 78 runs in just over 10.3 overs with J Richardson scoring beautifully to retire on 30 and Calum O’Berg scoring a useful 24no to secure the win.
Assistant manager Rob Roberts said: “The achievement was well deserved with several senior U17s away on holiday and several of the club’s U15 players drafted in.”
Uppingham’s U17s also collected the Bourne Services U17 League winners’ trophies on the night.
The club thanked Border Counties Youth Cricket Association for organising the 2011 season and the league’s sponsors for presenting the trophies and organising independent umpires for the season.
