Boss Michael Goode was left disappointed after Deeping Rangers were knocked out of the FA Cup.

But following the 3-0 home defeat to AFC Rushden & Diamonds on Saturday, he called on the squad to take all the positives from their fine run into the league campaign.

Goode admitted: “We are disappointed in the way we have lost.

“I thought in the first half – certainly for 25 to 30 minutes – that we were well in the game.

“We created a couple of half opportunities but the first goal came from a basic error – that was bad defending.

“We weathered a bit of a storm but the second goal was lucky because it was a good tackle and the deflection put their striker clean through.

“The timing of it changed my team talk. At 2-0 down you’ve got to find a way back into the game but they can leave four at the back and two midfielders sitting there.

“It was disappointing to concede a third goal when they only had five good chances. One goal was lucky and we gave away the other two.

“The difference is that they had three chances in the box and finished them clinically.

“Overall, though, we have enjoyed a really good run in the competition and played some great football along the way.

“We will take heart from all of those good things and look to take them into our league form.

“We know we played well against Dereham and Leek plus in patches on Saturday. We looked quite comfortable with our shape defensively.”

Wednesday’s derby date at Holbeach United is off due to the Tigers’ cup replay so the next game for Deeping will be a trip to Great Yarmouth Town in the FA Vase second qualifying round on Saturday.

Goode added: “I think it’s unfortunate that we’ve got a free week now.

“We didn’t feel tired for the replay with Leek Town and we would have liked to get a league game in midweek.

“Instead we will need to regroup and make sure we are fresh again at the weekend.”
