Organisers of the Rutland County Show are hoping for another beautiful day like their first in their new home last year.

The Rutland County Show, which this year is the 183rd, is on Sunday, May 31.

There will be two free shuttle buses running from Uppiungham and Oakham, as well as an improved ticketing system and banks on site.

Show director Emma Dodds said: “We are really keen to make the Rutland Show about Rutland people.

“Families are our growing market, being so close to Oakham town now, so we’re aiming at finding something for every member of the family to do and see at the show.

‘The Member’s Marquee this year is once again generously sponsored by Frontier Agriculture and is a glazed stunning pavilion. It sits in-between the Main ring and the Rutland ring so members have a choice of two lawns to sit in, and of course they have their own bar and café run by Robert Reid.

“And the great thing is, for just a few pounds more than the gate price, you can become a member.”

Attractions at the show include local groups, clubs and societies in the Rutland ring, an education zone, a local larder celebrating home grown food, member’s marquee and a bar and cafe.

Other additions to the show this year are a farrier competition. There is also a vintage dairy, the NFU roadshow, the dog zone, the parrot show, the hilarious sheep show, a demonstration by the Military Working Dog Squadron based at St George’s Barracks in Cottesmore, as well as Leicester Tigers and the Cottesmore Hunt.

There is also a kitchen featuring demonstrations by Sean Hope from the Olive Branch,as well as other local chefs. Last but not least there’s the Parade of Livestock Champions, as well as 140 shopping stands.

Gates open at 8.30am. Tickets are on sale now online with a 20 per cent discount until the end of today at £10 adult and £8 concessions. From then until show day they are £12.50/£10.
