Morris mania will descend on Uppingham on July 23 & 24

DANCERS from 16 Morris dancing clubs based all over the country will descend on Uppingham this weekend.

A wide variety of dancing styles will be seen at displays throughout the area by 150 dancers, including sword dancing, North West style clog dancing, and Cotswold style dancing.

On Saturday there will be a dancing in Uppingham Market Square from 9.30am then four coach tours will leave Uppingham at about midday to take the dancers to other locations including:

South west - The Bewicke Arms, Hallaton from 12.30pm to 1pm; The Fox, Hallaton, 1.30pm to 2.20pm; Queen’s Head, Sutton Bassett, 2.45pm to 3.20pm; The Old Grammar School, Market Harborough, 3.50pm to 4.30pm; The Nevill Arms, Medbourne, 5pm to 5.40pm.

North East - Exeter Arms, Barrowden, 12.20 to 2pm; Junction of High Street and Ironmonger Street, Stamford 2.35pm to 3.25pm; Golden Fleece, 3.30pm to 4.10pm; Fishing Lodge, Rutland Water 5.05pm to 5.40pm.

North: Horse and Jockey, Manton, 11.45am to 12.30pm; The Sun, Cottesmore, 12.45pm to 2.45pm; White Lion, Colsterworth,

3pm to 3.45pm; Blue Dog, Sewstern, 3.50pm to 4.35pm; Fox and Hounds, Exton, 5pm to 5.45pm.

South: White Hart, Lyddington midday to 12.45pm. the Plough, Caldecott, 1pm to 2.30pm. , Plough, Sondes Arms, Rockingham, 2.40pm to 3.10pm; The Cube, Corby Town Centre 3.30pm to 4pm; Shoulder of Mutton, Weldon and George and Dragon, Seaton, 5.20pm to 5.55pm.

On Sunday a procession will take place in Uppingham High street from 10am starting at Seaton Road roundabout with a finale in the Market Square at 10.20am.

Some informal displays will take place in the Market Square from 11.45pm following the Sunday service in the church.
