Get a taste of Cube at concert by Eduardo Martin and Ahmed Dickinson-Cardenas
Enjoy a taste of Cuba at Stamford Arts Centre on Friday, May 8 with a performance by one of the most prominent contemporary guitar composers and his former student.
Following a successful London debut in 2014, Grammy nominee Eduardo Martin has teamed up with Ahmed Dickinson-Cardenas for a series of concerts at venues across the UK.
Guitarist, composer and teacher, Eduardo Martin was born in Havana and studied with maestro Jesus Ortega.
In 1985 he graduated from the Higher Institute of Art of Cuba and won the Square Soloist competition at the National Centre.
He has made many television and radio appearances and has composed music for theatre and film.
Eduardo has toured Cuba, Latin America and Europe many times and given recitals, seminars, workshops and master classes in many countries.
During the 1990s he became the first Latin American composer laureate of the International Guitar Competition of Radio France and founded the Imaginary Quartet with Gamallo Francisco and Ignacio Lopez Dominguez of Spain and Cuba Walfrido.
In 1995 he was chosen as chief composer for Sounds of the Americas Festival and his scores have been published worldwide. This music is currently on official study programs of teaching guitar in many countries.
Ahmed Dickinson Cardenas is one of the finest young performers of the Cuban Classical Guitar School. He is a sophisticated virtuoso on his instrument and an ambassador of Cuban culture.
Born in Havana, he was awarded a first-class honours degree in guitar from the Superior Institute of Art .
During his years in Cuba he took part in masterclasses with Leo Brouwer, John Williams, Costas Cotsiolis, Shinichi Fukuda, Joseph Urshalmi, Marcos Socias, Gonzalo Salazar and Eduardo Martin.
He has made frequent festival appearances at Hispano-American Guitar Festival, Dublin Guitar Week and Havana International Guitar Festival.
In 2005 he came to England where he studied at the Royal College of Music with Carlos Bonell and Chris Stell.
Since his arrival in the UK he has been the recipient of numerous awards including Ashley Stewart Arts Sponsorship, Concordia Foundation and Ivor Mairants.
