Chefs will put their recipes to the test as a bar hosts its fifth annual chilli cook-off.

Mama Liz’s in North Street, Stamford, will once again invite teams to take part in the heated competition from 3pm to 6pm on Sunday.

Twelve teams will create their best dishes as they aim to impress the judges with their chillies.

Mama Liz’s partner and chef Pat Juggins came up with the idea for the cook-off five years ago and the event has grown in popularity ever since.

He said: “I’ve always been a big fan of chilli and I thought it would be good to do a cook-off.

“We combined it with a beer festival and it turned into a great event.”

The rules are simple. Teams have three hours to cook their chilli and they can prepare one element of the dish in advance - be it a sauce base or marinated meat.

Pat said: “It started off with three of four entrants.

“Now we have people coming up from London and all over.

“We have about 12 people competing, which is the limit for me in terms of space.”

While the cook-off will be the focus of the day, there is plenty more for visitors to enjoy. There will be live music, a beer festival, chilli eating competitions and more.

And it all comes to a head at 6pm when the panel of judges pick their favourite chilli of the day.
