Shoestring’s Winter Warmer is Liz Lochhead’s Good Things - a romantic comedy about finding love the second (or third or fourth) time, from ‘Scotland’s greatest living dramatist’.

Divorced, redundant and with a significant birthday looming, Susan also has to cope with a father in his second childhood, a stroppy teenage daughter and an ex who, unfortunately, still has the power to wound.

Set in the charity shop where Susan volunteers, over the space of one year, Good Things explores the rocky path to love later in life with poignancy, humour and wit.

Between 2011 and 2016 Lochhead was the Makar, or National Poet of Scotland, and in 2015 was awarded the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry She has been writer in residence at Glasgow University, The University of Edinburgh, Glasgow School of Art, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and Eton and has published more than a dozen plays.

Liz Lochhead is also well known as a feminist, both from her writing and public appearances she has said in the past, “feminism is like the hoovering, you just have to keep doing it.”

Good Things runs until Saturday at Stamford Arts Centre. With performances tonight and tomorrow at 7.45pm.

Tickets are £10 (£8 concessions) and can be purchased by calling the box office on 01780 763203.
