Opera lovers are invited to join Stamford Gilbert and Sullivan Players at Stamford Corn Exchange from Wednesday, October 8 to Saturday, October 11.

This talented group of singers will perform Ruddigore each evening at 7.30pm with a 2.30pm matinee performance on the Saturday.

Rederring is the only place in the land with professional bridesmaids. Bewailing their lack of employment they are hoping that Rose Maybud will oblige.

As this is unlikely they ask Rose’s aunt, Dame Hannah if she might consider marriage but her betrothed had turned out to be the cursed Baronet of Ruddigore.

Rose and Robin are in love but shyness prevents them expressing their feelings for each other so Robin asks his confident foster brother, Richard Dauntless to speak to Rose on his behalf. Richard initially wins Rose for himself but she changes her mind and pledges herself to Robin.

At the wedding of Rose and Robin it is revealed that Robin is actually Sir Ruthven Murgatroyd, who fled and left his younger brother Despard to inherit his title and the curse. Rose throws herself on Despard’s mercy but he can now live a virtuous life and return to his first love, Margaret.

Rose resolves to marry Richard and the bridesmaids celebrate the upturn in business.

Meanwhile at Ruddigore Castle the ancestors are concerned about Sir Ruthven’s ability to carry out the conditions of the curse and ask him to abduct a lady to prove his wickedness.

His servant, Old Adam is sent off on this mission and returns with Dame Hannah who is later reunited with her betrothed, Sir Roderic.

Everything seems sorted except for Ruthven; Richard is about to marry Rose and he still has the Ruddigore curse hanging over him. Or does he ?

Tickets are £13.50 (£12.50), children £7 each evening and £12.50 (£11.50), children £6 for the matinee from 01780 766455.
